This is the poncho that I made for my niece, that I was working on forever. I'm quite pleased with it. And she doesn't even look tortured to be wearing it! Finished early March, 2008.

Current Projects

So while I was in a yarn store in Bellingham I told the ladies that I have a self-imposed limit of 3 projects on the needles at any given time. This is to make sure that I finish everything because UFOs are bad. So the ladies laughed at me and told me it was absurd, especially when two of them are definitely long term projects, the kind that one frequently needs to take breaks from. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the current WIPs.

Current Project: Scarf

I started this while I was home over Christmas when I was tired of knitting my poncho. It's coming along alright and is very fuzzy. This is actually the first scarf I've ever knitted. I skipped that stage earlier.

Current Project: Poncho

This is the poncho for my niece that I've been diligently knitting on for months. It's more time consuming than it looks like it should be. I'm very proud of how far it's come. I'm almost done with knitting the body.

My bag is done!

I finished my bag! It's pretty. It also currently smells because Donna Marie didn't tell me it would. She does, however, tell me that once it's dry the smell will go away and it will go back to being pleasant like it was during the knitting process. It's biggish and the knitting needles next to it are what I knitted it on, primarily. It started out with the pattern for Zeeby's Bag from Stitch&Bitch, but I apparently am incapable of following directions so it's actually really different. It's bigger and the two-toneness is all my doing -- the original pattern had contrasting accents, but much less than mine. The closures are mine and I designed the cabled straps pretty much on my own (along with the two-tonedness of the shoulder straps). I tried a lot of new things with this bag. I'm pretty happy with it and can't wait for it to dry -- it's wet due to blocking, a super-magical process. I also like the buttons. (I apologize for the blurriness).

Anyway, knitting is still happy and work is work-like.

Six Flags was fun. Maybe more detail later.

I think there is something about not enough sleep. . .

Somehow when I don't get enough sleep or just when I get up early (or earlier than normal) I seem to be predisposed to be happy. Today is going to be a long day, no doubt about it. I'm working today, from 8:45 'till 5:00 and then I have class until 9:00. Wee! But it's Friday and that is wicked awesome.

I'm loving class. Seriously loving it. I am a math dork. I really should just accept the fact so that I can move on with my life. My three hour class doesn't feel like work or a lecture; it feels like playtime. It doesn't hurt that my professor brings drinks and goodies for snack time for every class, either! I'm working hard not to be one of those people, the super annoying ones that answer everything and are too much of a presence. It's difficult, though, because I enjoy it so much. (like I said, math DORK) That being said, it's a lot of work and is very intense. Nearly every day there is an assignment due (or a quiz) that requires actual thought and work and is worth a substantial portion of my grade. It's tough to balance the workload with work, but I'm hopeful.

On the knitting front. . . I finished the baby blanket, the largish bag is almost done (well, it looks like a bag, at least), and yesterday I made a cable! It's actually quite easy and somewhat magical. I've also started a cami. It's. . . intimidating. I'm working with cotton yarn which has much less give than wool and I'm using super tiny needles. As a friend pointed out the other day, "some people complain about knitting baby booties on size zero needles. . and you're making a shirt with size one." It'll likely keep me busy for a while and it's gotten put on the back burner what with class and all.

I'm still not sure what all is going on this fall. I really need to figure that out. Unfortunately (fortunately?) what I'm doing is dependent on others and whether or not I get an invitation to go to Africa.
