Only a month

Last night was one of the least restful nights of sleep I've had in a long time. It's not that I didn't sleep, or that I couldn't fall asleep; it's that I woke up every hour or two. Each time I'd look at the clock, be amazed that it was still so early and go back to sleep. This happened until five in the morning or so.

Then, of course, my morning sleeping was marked by a dream where I was effectively kidnapped by the FBI. He came into my room and told me it was time to go. I had time to grab my phone and Beluga, and then, prompted by the agent, a pair of panties. And that was that. We were off and running. I was at some point allowed to return to grab a key for work and some more clothing but it was all very fast-paced. Just to clear things up, I wasn't kidnapped 'cause I'd done anything wrong but for my own protection. I don't think I ever figured out who was after me so badly but I'm sure they were mean.

Anyway, it's Spring Break, woo. Can you hear my excitement? No? Well, that's probably because there's not much to be excited about. I don't have classes this week but that's a mixed blessing because I really like one of my classes and am sorry not to have it this week (the other I am pleased to not have). I suppose the best thing about not having classes tonight and tomorrow is just that it makes my horrible 2 days less horrible than they would have been. Leave home at 8. Work 9-5. Class from 6-8:45. Take shuttle, then bus, get home around 10. Leave home at 6:45 for mandatory work meeting at 7:45. Go to meeting and then work 9-5. Go to class from 6-8:45. Get home around 10. Personally I'm fond of the 14 hour day followed by 8 3/4 hours home to eat/sleep/rest and then a 15 hour day. Since I don't have class I'll be allowed to return home when I get off work at five. Except, of course, that my manager has Strep (ack! keep it away from me!) so I may end up staying at work later than five.

All about me

"You walk the line between . . . neurotic and, and. . "
"And useful?"
"Yes. Between neurotic and useful."

You know, I truly love helping people. That's what makes work enjoyable for me. I love the slightly odd requests, the things that require a little ingenuity. Just now two boys came in, maybe eighteen (and who'd of thought eighteen would look so young already!) and wanted to know if we sold maps -- they were looking for Quincy Market. We don't carry maps but we have these old visitor's guides from last fall. . I pulled one out, flipped through the pages 'till I found a map and then showed them where we were and where they were going. They thanked me and asked if it was complimentary. So nice and polite. it was definitely something that'll classify as part of the highlight of my day. I enjoy it when people come in, lost. I'll take a couple minutes and either direct them, or if I don't know or it's complex I'll pull up and print a google map from here to there. It's enjoyable. I know some people get irked with such things -- and admittedly if someone is rude or obnoxious it's likely to happen -- but it breaks up the monotony and it feels good to make someone's day a little better.

Shirts!

I think I'm finally getting more work shirts! If you've not heard the story. . . I'm supposed to have at least two regulation work shirts. I was given one. One that smelled bad (like old man BO) until I washed it a couple times -- which I couldn't do for the better part of a week because of the timing of work, etc. I have since received two more promotional shirts. The first was a size XL. Unisex. I could have worn that shirt with no pants and been entirely decent it came down so low. It was WAY too much to tuck into my pants, though I did anyway. Then we switched promotions and I got a new shirt. It's only a large. Woo. It is, however, still too big. And of course through this entire time I've only had ONE shirt to wear to work. I wear the same shirt five days a week. And if we're lucky I do laundry once a week. I'm sure you can see the problem.

Anyway, the manager of operations just called and asked what size shirt I wear. I'm stoked. After three months of being with the company I may actually have a proper number of shirts!

Back to productivity!

Too hot

It's dropped 17 degrees from the high temp of the day to a reasonable 75F but it still feels just too hot. (if you don't want to do the math. . the high here today was 92) My room is too hot to sleep or really to do much other than to lie on my bed and sweat. Yes, I know, that's a perfectly lovely image.

I have to be at work in less than nine hours and I thought I'd walk to work which means that I should leave by eight. This does not please me mightily.
